Foundation News – Round 4 Awards

01.09.2024

The Trustees of the Ulrike Michal Foundation for the Arts are pleased to announce that the Foundation awarded grants to nine arts projects earlier this year. This is the fourth time that the foundation has been able to make awards since it was established in December 2019. The Trustees were keen to support a wider range of fine and decorative art projects this round and fortunately the high quality of the applications made such an aim achievable.

The Ulrike Michal Foundation is supporting the following projects:

Shropshire Museum & Archives – a ceramic art project inspired by the museum’s collection of 18th century ceramics produced at the Shropshire-based Caughley Porcelain factory. The project will include workshops and an exhibition of new pottery by Paul Scott.

Bluecoat Display Centre – three window installations by craft makers for display at the Liverpool-based craft gallery.

Greenfield Valley Trust – a series of art workshops focused on traditional artistic and craft skills and inspired by the heritage, history and geography of Flintshire’s Deeside.

Molly Brown – artist and print-maker’s residency, workshops and exhibition inspired by the farming year and practices, all located in the north Shropshire countryside and its communities

Joseph Mayer Community Partnership – the purchase and installation of a picture hanging system to create a new art gallery at the Mayer Hall, Bebington, Wirral.

Oriel Môn – the framing and conservation of the oldest portrait painting in the Anglesey museum’s collection to enable its future display.

Sarah Field Ceramics – an artist’s residency working with staff at Liverpool hospitals to explore the decorative techniques and products of the Della Robbia pottery factory, which was active in Birkenhead between 1894 and 1906.

Tate Aisle Gallery – the staging of a seasonal art exhibition and associated art workshops at Birkenhead Park

Williamson Art Gallery and Museum – the conservation of artworks from the museum collection for display as part of the ‘Slaves of Fashion’ exhibition by the Singh Twins at the Birkenhead-based art gallery.

David Brown, Chairman of the Ulrike Michal Foundation for the Arts said “As in previous rounds, the Trustees have been following the situation with the current group of applicants who are progressing well with their various projects. Most of them, of course, are still ongoing, but the enthusiasm of the applicants is very encouraging to the Trustees who hope, and expect, that the next round – the final one for the charity – will produce similar results.”

The Trustees plan to ask for applications for the fifth and final round of grants in October so keep an eye on the website for news of the announcement.
